In the system of Sahaja Yoga, our awareness operates on seven different levels, each being one chakra. The third chakra is called the Nabhi chakra (solar plexus) and is concerned with the function of sustaining us, through food, money, wealth, family, career, education, and ultimately through our spiritual life. The fruit of a well-maintained Nabhi chakra is a sense of complete satisfaction with one’s life. However, an imbalance in its working creates restlessness, dissatisfaction, greed, a lack of peace, miserliness, excessive consumption of food and/or entertainment, etc.

Here are 5 tips to improve the state of your Nabhi chakra:

1. Meditate

Meditation has proved itself to be an effective technique against the modern-day ills of stress and tension. In meditation, we can calm ourselves to a point where we are not adversely affected by the physiological effects of this stress. More importantly, our attention is not distracted or burdened, and can rest peacefully in the silence within. The best way to experience this state of meditation is through the practice of Sahaja Yoga. In this system, when the Kundalini energy rises through the Nabhi chakra, it relaxes this center and allows one to experience a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.

2. Live a balanced life

Often, we are pulled between the extremes of gratification and responsibility, leading to unnecessary stress on this center. Achieving a balance between these two activities can aid to relax this subtle energy center within. Such a balance can be attained by focusing on another aspect of the Nabhi chakra, which is sustenance through our spirituality. Keeping your attention on your spiritual self can provide a much-needed perspective on how you want your life to be, and can help you strike a balance between various aspects of your life.

3. Learn to let go

When we try too hard to hold on to something we believe should be ours, it creates a stress on the Nabhi chakra through this desire. As long as this desire is present, it will force this chakra to overwork, and thus create an unnecessary dissatisfaction within a person. But, when we let go, we release this tension on the Nabhi chakra, and then also experience relief which leads towards satisfaction with life.

4. Family is important too

The sustenance provided by a healthy family life is vastly underrated in modern life. However, it plays an important role in maintaining the state of the Nabhi chakra. In the absence of a good family life, this chakra is in a state of tension, and creates a lot of unease and stress in a person. Paying attention to improving our filial relationships can provide a lot of relief to this center.

5. A meaningful life

“Man shall not live by bread alone…” is a famous Biblical statement. When we don’t limit the focus of our life to simply sustaining our bodies, we live in a manner that obeys a transcendent ideal. Such a life is centered on Dharma — basic inviolable principles that guide our conduct. Such principles enable us to sustain our being even in times of great crisis. In the absence of such principles, a subtle confusion is created within, and unable to know how and why we should live a certain way, we become dissatisfied with life, no matter how comfortable it may appear to be.
